- Scraps of fingering-weight yarn in 4 colors:
CC: Basket Decoration (I used orange)
Black: Eyes
Pink or Red: Mouth
Additional Supplies:
- 1 size B (2.25 mm) crochet hook
- Scissors
- A tapestry needle
Note: This pattern doesn't use continuous rounds, but rounds joined by a slip st.
With MC, ch 6. Dc in 3rd st from hook. Dc to end. Dc 6 times in the last st you worked. This turns the piece and creates a soon-to-be oval. (See Fig. 1)
Dc across then dc 5 times into the st you just worked, to turn the piece like at the beginning. This finishes your oval shape. After that, join in a round and ch 2. (18 sts)
Rnd #1:
(Work in back loops only) Sc around.
Join the piece, and ch 2.
Rnds#2-3: Sc around.
Join the piece, then switch to CC.
With CC, chain 2, sc around, and FO.
Handle
With MC, chain 20.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd st from hook. Sc in each st in the row.
FO; leaving a tail about 6-7 inches long.
Thread a tapestry needle through that tail, then st one side of the handle to one side of the basket using tiny stitches. Weave the yarn through the inside of the handle, and st the opposing side of the handle to the other side of the basket.
With Black, embroider the eyes spaced 2 sts apart, about a row or two below the CC.
With Pink/Red, embroider mouth using 1 st a bit looser than usual so it curves and makes a smile.
Finishing
Weave in any of your loose ends. Place some tiny things inside, and enjoy! Make sure the mouse doesn't take it! :)
