Knitting and Crocheting Abbreviations Overview

In a pattern, you'll most likely find at least a few abbreviations. Abbreviations are basically a way to shorten the length of a piece of instruction, making it faster to read and follow. Knitting/crocheting abbreviations stand for certain techniques and/or directions.
Knitting Abbreviations:
These are knitting abbreviations you'll probably find in my patterns. Here are a list of them and their meanings:

st(s)- stitch(es) 
dpn(s)- double-pointed knitting needle(s) Used to knit in the round or as an icord.
rnd(s)-round(s)
k- knit
p-purl
yo-yarn over
kfb- Knit to the front of the stitch, and then to the back. This increases your work by 1 stitch.
kfbf-Knit to the front of the stitch, then the back of the stitch, and to the front again. This increases your work by 2 stitches.
k2tog- Knit 2 together. This decreases your work by 1 stitch.
St st- Stockinette stitch 
MC- Main Color 
CC- Contrasting Color
[ ]- Repeat instructions in brackets as many times as specified.
Crochet Abbreviations:
You can't forget crochet! Here are the abbreviations you'll probably see in my crochet patterns:

dc- double crochet 
sc- single crochet 
rnd(s)- round(s)
st(s)- stitch(es) 
MC- main color 
CC- contrasting color
yo- yarn over
[ ]-Repeat instructions in brackets as many times as specified. 
sc inc- 2 single crochet (Single crochet twice in a loop. This increases your work by one stitch.) 
dc inc- 2 double crochet (Double crochet twice in a loop. This increases your work by one stitch.) 
sc dec- single crochet decrease (Insert your hook through one st, yo, and pull through. Repeat with next st, then pull yarn through all 3 sts, decreasing your work by 1 st.) 
dc dec- double crochet decrease. (Dc in two loops at the same time. This decreases your work by one stitch.)
